Study Finds CBG Reduces Anxiety

Research shows CBG significantly reduced anxiety at all time points and moderately reduced stress.

CBG shown to reduce Anxiety - OFFFIELD Post

We've been huge proponents of CBG from the very inception of OFFFIELD. Even including it in higher non-psychoactive doses in our Athletic Energy Gummies when the cost didn't make sense for our business (and now most recently in our THC infused High Performance Energy Gummies). What did make sense is that it worked for us. There was not enough research at the time, but we felt a huge difference when we conducted trials. So we stuck to what we believed in. Now, research is validating our experience with the benefits of CBG.

Overview

Scientists at Washington State University conducted a study on how cannabigerol (CBG) affects anxiety, stress, and mood in healthy people. The results were published in Scientific Reports.

The global cannabis market is growing quickly due to recent legalization in many countries. Most cannabis products have D9-tetrahydrocannabinol, but producers are finally also focusing on minor cannabinoids like cannabigerol, which is non-intoxicating and popular for its potential health benefits.

Cannabigerol is known as the "mother of all cannabinoids" because it helps produce other cannabinoids like THC and CBD. Previous studies have shown CBG might have antibiotic, antifungal, antihypertensive, antidepressant, and pain-relief properties.

In this study, 34 healthy adults participated in a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. They went through two online sessions one week apart. In the first session, they learned about the study and received instructions. In the second session, they rated their mental health, then were randomly given either 20 mg of CBG or a placebo. They completed surveys and tests to measure their anxiety, stress, mood, and cognitive functions.

The results showed that CBG significantly reduced anxiety at all time points and moderately reduced stress before a social stress test. However, it did not improve mood. Participants who took CBG did not report any intoxication, dry eyes, dry mouth, sleepiness, appetite changes, or heart palpitations.

CBG also improved verbal memory without affecting motor or cognitive functions. The study concluded that CBG can reduce anxiety and improve memory in healthy individuals without causing intoxication or other side effects. However, the study had limitations, including a small sample size and only testing experienced cannabis users, which means the results might not apply to those who have never used cannabis.

How It Relates to Fitness

CBG has the potential to improve endurance training by reducing anxiety and stress levels, which can help athletes maintain a more positive mental state during their workouts. Lower anxiety and stress can lead to better focus and mental clarity, allowing athletes to push through challenging parts of their training. Additionally, the improvement in verbal memory suggests a positive effect on cognitive function, which can aid in learning and remembering complex training routines or strategies. Without causing any intoxication or negative side effects, CBG can be a safe supplement to support mental well-being and cognitive performance, both of which are crucial for sustained endurance training.

Key Takeaways

1) Anxiety Reduction: Cannabigerol (CBG) significantly reduced anxiety levels in healthy individuals at all measured time points.

2) Stress Moderation: CBG showed a moderate reduction in stress levels before a social stress test.

3) Memory Improvement: Participants who took CBG experienced a significant improvement in verbal memory compared to those who took a placebo.

4) No Intoxication or Side Effects: CBG did not cause intoxication or other side effects like dry eyes, dry mouth, sleepiness, appetite changes, or heart palpitations.
